Allen moved from Chicago to Costa Rica's
newest resort coast, the northern Pacific, for a change of life.
He was looking for one after having been mostly self-employed as
an architect, general contractor, interior designer, and
facility manager for his entire career in Los Angeles, New York,
and Chicago. Mixing drinks at the beach sounded good after years
of stress in America's 3 largest cities. After 2 vacations in
Costa Rica, he and his partner, David, sold everything in the
USA, packed up the cat (Henry) and dog (Rudy), and settled near
Costa Rica's most beautiful beaches and the glorious Pacific
sunsets. This coast, of Guanacaste Province, was largely unknown
to the world when the new international airport in Liberia (LIR)
opened in 2002. Now, you can be on a Pacific beach one hour
after arriving non stop from Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, Newark,
Minneapolis, Charlotte, Chicago, Los Angeles, Calgary, Toronto,
London, and New York (JFK).
Guanacaste is still largely unknown to gay travelers and
investors, but Allen can see the Flamingo, Potrero, and Surfside
area emerging as a "Next Big Gay Thing" over the coming few
years, much like South Beach emerged in the 1990's. Costa Rica
is being built/rebuilt from the ground up and opportunities
abound for investment, retirement, tourism-related business, or
change of life scenarios like his own. It is a country that,
needs almost everything, has perfect weather (think Hawaii),
comes with high-speed internet, and the roads are finally being
repaved!
Allen's "change of life" didn't quite go as expected. He is
working at the beach, or at least across the street from it, but
he now uses every element of his experience and training to help
clients understand their place in Costa Rica and the real estate
investment that suits them best.
