Doug was born and raised in Arkansas. He earned a B.S. in
Electrical Engineering from Tulane University in New Orleans and
studied in the MBA program at Southern Methodist University in
Dallas. He relocated around the country while working in
operations management with Procter & Gamble, Unilever, and Vie
de France. He’s called New Orleans, Texas, Chicago, New York,
Hoboken, and Baltimore home and has purchased and sold real
estate in several of these markets.
In the early 1980’s, Doug began visiting Key West to escape
those cold Chicago winters. In 1995, he moved to the island and
began selling real estate in 1996. Doug completed the renovation
of a large historic property along with his partner, Michael
Philip. Doug has graduated from the vegetable gardens that he
grew "up north" to orchids, tropical fruit trees, bananas and
native butterfly plants here in paradise. It always amazes him
how quickly things grow in our warm, sunny climate.
In addition to serving on the boards of local organizations
including the Key West Symphony Orchestra and the Metropolitan
Community Church, Doug is currently the Vice-chair for
Development of The Community Foundation of the Florida Keys. And
he supports the arts and other charities including Last Stand,
GLEE, Reef Relief, the National Wildlife Federation, the Audubon
Society, Habitat for Humanity, and FIRM. He purchased his first
hybrid car in 2001 and participated in a green living conference
in San Francisco and earned the REALTOR, GREEN designation.
